‘Zombieland: Double Tap’ Review: A Delightful Reminder Of Why We Love Zombie Movies

Zombieland: Double Tap is, at times, downright goofy but still a delight to watch. A release like this is a reminder of why having a good writer is crucial to the overall success of a film. Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Dave Callaham have managed to capture the magic of the 1st film while bringing on some interesting twists to this post-apocalyptic narrative. The chemistry between this ensemble certainly hasn’t missed a beat. Harrelson, Stone, Eisenberg, and Breslin pick up right where they left off. What I did find quite interesting is how director Ruben Fleischer and the writing team understood how even a great ensemble and premise would only go so far. The additions to the cast are really what makes this film for me.

Zombieland: Double Tap

The addition of Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson were fantastic casting choices. Rather than spoil how they impact the narrative (and believe me, they do), each fits perfectly into this little dysfunctional zombie-slaying family. What I will say is that we do get an answer about who patient zero was, how Bill Murray was involved in this whole Zombie outbreak in the 1st place, and what a “Homer” is. Zombieland: Double Tap is the perfect example of a film that allows you to turn your brain off and have a great time. Not every movie has to be an Oscar winner, but rarely does a sequel get it this right. It wouldn’t surprise me if Zombieland: Double Tap is a box-office that we see the third installment in this series, and judging by this week’s numbers, that announcement could be forthcoming.
